Did you know?

It has an unusual shrub-like growth habit, which distinguishes it from most other aloes with a classic rosette.

Aloe decaryi originates from southern Madagascar, where it grows mainly in dry, rocky areas and sparse scrub vegetation. The species was first scientifically published in 1941 in the Bulletin of the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle.

The leaves are usually light blue to turquoise, sometimes with a pinkish tint that may appear under stress or strong light. The plant forms rather open rosettes of relatively thin leaves and with age develops into a small succulent shrub. The stems are slender and can grow taller over time, giving the plant a more airy appearance than many other aloes.

The flowers are red, tubular, and arranged in spike-like inflorescences typical of the genus Aloe.

Aloe decaryi is a fairly hardy species that can adapt to different conditions. It is best grown in a bright position with well-draining soil and watered sparingly, only several days after the soil has completely dried out. If you are looking for an aloe with an unusual turquoise colour and an open, airy growth habit, Aloe decaryi is an excellent choice for a collection.
