The plant likes sunny locations. If possible, it can be grown outdoors in summer.

Always water only after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.

It can withstand temperatures as low as -3.9 °C for short periods. However, the plant is not frost-resistant.

TIP for you:

Requires a very bright location and watering only after the substrate has completely dried out.

Trichodiadema calvatum is an interesting succulent native to South Africa, where it grows in dry areas with rocky ground. It is a less common representative of the genus Trichodiadema and is valued mainly for the distinctive structure of its leaves.

The leaves are fleshy, elongated to cylindrical, and noticeably larger and more robust than in related species. They are fresh green in colour with a finely textured surface. At the tips of the leaves there is a characteristic tuft of fine bristles, which is a typical feature of the entire genus. The plant has an upright growth habit and gradually becomes branched.

Flowers appear singly at the ends of the stems. They are pink to purplish with a pale centre and are relatively large compared to the leaves. After flowering, a capsule-like fruit is formed.

Trichodiadema calvatum requires a very well-draining substrate and a bright position with plenty of sunlight. Watering should be cautious, only after the substrate has dried out completely. It is an interesting and rarely cultivated species that will appeal to growers looking for a typical yet uncommon representative of the genus Trichodiadema.
