Did you know?

The plant has the English nickname Hidden Testicles, which comes from the small tubers hidden in the substrate.

Seyrigia humbertii is an endemic species from the Toliara region in southwestern Madagascar. It is sometimes known by the common name Hidden Testicles, a nickname referring to its unusual underground tubers. The species is well adapted to the hot and dry climate of its native area and belongs to lesser-known but very distinctive succulent plants.

When young, the plant grows as a compact shrub, but with age it becomes a climbing plant and develops tendrils. The segmented stems are approximately 5–20 cm long and are covered with a fine white felt that protects the plant from intense sunlight and overheating. Beneath the soil, small potato-like tubers are formed, which can reach up to about 8 cm in diameter and serve as water storage during dry periods.

The flowers are very small and inconspicuous, coloured orange to pinkish-brown, and are not the main ornamental feature of the plant.

The tubers, often mistakenly referred to as a caudex, can be easily raised above the soil surface in a pot for better visibility and can look quite attractive. Seyrigia humbertii prefers warm conditions with bright light, is easy to grow, and can be arranged in hanging baskets or bonsai-style containers. Thanks to its unusual growth habit and distinctive tubers, it is an excellent choice for growers looking for a truly unique succulent plant.
