It can briefly tolerate temperatures as low as -6.7 °C. The plant is not frost-resistant.

TIP for you:

It will thrive better if you repot it into a slightly larger pot with well-drained substrate.

Senecio galpinii is a species also known under the scientific name Kleinia galpinii. The species name commemorates Ernest Edward Galpin (1858–1941), a botanist who made an important contribution to the study of South African flora. This groundsel originates from Zimbabwe, Eswatini, and the South African provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and the Northern Province. The plant was awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society as an interesting species suitable for cultivation under greenhouse conditions in a warm temperate climate.

It is a small succulent shrub with upright, slightly flattened stems. The leaves are fleshy, narrowly elliptical, covered with a powdery coating, and have a chalky blue coloration. When bruised, they may release a mild scent. The plant usually grows to about 45 cm in height.

The flowers are bright orange to red and lightly fragrant. They appear on branched flowering stems.

Senecio galpinii is an easy species that can be occasionally fertilized during active growth. If you are looking for a compact shrubby succulent with striking flowers, this groundsel can be an interesting addition to a collection.
