Did you know?

The cultivar is named Thera, inspired by the ancient name of the volcanic island of Santorini.

Sempervivum Thera is a cultivar bred by Martin Haberer from Germany in 1977. This houseleek forms rosettes about 5–10 cm in size, light green in colour with a clearly red outer zone. The leaves have fringed margins, and when flowering, noticeably long flower stalks appear. The colouring of the rosettes changes during the year according to the seasons.

It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate, where prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the clump.
