Sempervivum Spätling
The plant likes full sun, but can also tolerate partial shade. It is suitable for rock gardens or portable containers.
In a pot, water after the substrate has dried out. When placed in a rock garden, water lightly or not at all at your discretion.
The plant is fully frost hardy.
It forms dense rosettes and stands out in spring with its bright red color. In summer, the spiderwebs on some plants grow larger, giving the sedum an attractive appearance.
Sempervivum Spätling is a cultivar bred by Martin Haberer from Germany in 1990. This houseleek forms small, spherical rosettes about 3 cm in size with yellow-pink colouring. The leaves are white-pink, and the rosettes are covered with fine white webbing, which is characteristic of this cultivar. The colouring changes during the year according to the seasons.
It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate, where prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and shallow containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the planting. Thanks to its small, spherical rosettes and delicate webbing, it is an appealing choice for finely detailed houseleek plantings.
