Sempervivum Reinhard
The plant likes full sun, but can also tolerate partial shade. It is suitable for rock gardens or portable containers.
Water the plant in a pot after the substrate has dried out. When placed in a rock garden, water as needed.
The plant is fully frost-resistant.
The Reinhard variety was developed by Martin Haberer, one of Germany's most prominent breeders of Sempervivum.
Sempervivum Reinhard is a cultivar bred by Martin Haberer from Germany in 1979 and is listed as a cultivar of S. cantabricum. It forms regular rosettes about 5 cm in diameter, dark green in colour with brown-tinted leaf tips. The overall appearance is restrained, with slight seasonal changes in colouring.
It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, predominantly mineral substrate that should not remain waterlogged for long periods. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces offsets beforehand to maintain the planting. With its calm colouring, it works well as a balancing element among more vividly coloured houseleeks.
