Did you know?

This cultivar, named after Queen Amélia of Portugal, is popular for its firm rosettes and ease of cultivation in full sun.

Sempervivum Queen Amealia is a cultivar bred by Sandy Mac Pherson from the United States of America in 1961. This houseleek forms green rosettes with distinctly coloured reddish-brown leaf tips. The leaves are slightly hairy, and the colouring changes during the year according to the seasons.

It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate, where prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the clump. Thanks to its colourful leaf tips, it is an attractive choice for growers who enjoy observing seasonal changes in houseleeks.
