The cultivar originates from Great Britain and is most striking during spring flowering.
Sempervivum Polaris is a cultivar bred by David T. Ford from the United Kingdom in 1982. This houseleek forms relatively tall rosettes about 8–9 cm high, composed of numerous rather narrow leaves in shades of red. The colouring may show slight mottling and changes during the year according to the seasons.
It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate that should not remain waterlogged for long periods. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces offsets beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the planting. With its taller rosettes and narrow leaves, it offers a distinctive addition to houseleek collections.
