The irregular appearance is a stable characteristic, not a cultivation defect.

Sempervivum Oddity is an unusual houseleek cultivar bred in the United States. It was introduced by Sandy MacPherson in 1978. This cultivar is known as a stable mutation with tubular leaves, meaning that even the offsets keep the same form and do not revert back to the typical appearance.

The rosette has green leaves with dark purple tips. The leaf bases are often twisted, while the rest of the leaf becomes tube-shaped, giving the plant a very distinctive structure. Growth remains compact, and the cultivar is mainly grown for its unique leaf form.

Flowering is rather rare in Sempervivum Oddity. Many plants bloom only very occasionally or may not flower even after many years of cultivation, which is frequently noted for this cultivar.

Sempervivum Oddity is grown similarly to other houseleeks, in a sunny position with well-draining soil. Compared to common forms it can be a little more sensitive to prolonged damp conditions, so a sheltered spot with good drainage is recommended. This cultivar is an excellent choice for collectors looking for a truly unusual Sempervivum.
