Did you know?

The Katmai cultivar is named after the Katmai volcano in Alaska.

Sempervivum Katmai is a cultivar bred by Martin Haberer from Germany in 1985. This houseleek forms flattened, spherical rosettes about 3–7 cm in diameter, with a predominantly green colouring. The rosettes are regular and compact in shape, while the colouring may change slightly during the year according to the seasons.

It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate that should not remain waterlogged for long periods. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the planting. Thanks to its calm green appearance, it works well as a contrast to more colourful houseleek cultivars.
