The flasher is almost indistinguishable from one of the two species commonly referred to by collectors as Glowing Embers.

Sempervivum Flasher is a cultivar bred by Kevin C. Vaughn from the United States of America in 1974. This houseleek forms bright red, open rosettes with a light apple-green centre. The leaves are elongated and slightly twisted at the base, giving the rosettes a dynamic appearance. When flowering, reddish flowers appear and the flower stalk reaches approximately 15–20 cm in height. The colouring of the rosettes changes during the year according to the seasons.

It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate, where prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the clump. Thanks to its vivid red colouring and open rosette shape, it stands out clearly among other houseleek cultivars.
