Sempervivum Cmirals Yellow is a distinctive houseleek discovered by Otokar Cmiral from the Czech Republic in 1979 in a valley of the Low Tatras in central Slovakia, within a population of the normal green form of Sempervivum montanum subsp. carpathicum. It is a small plant forming compact rosettes up to about 4 cm in diameter. Leaf colours range from dark green through light green to yellow-orange tones. The leaves are thick, fleshy, hairy and widest toward the tips, and the rosettes produce offsets on short stems. The leaf colouring changes during the year according to the seasons and growing conditions.

It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, predominantly mineral substrate that should not remain waterlogged for long periods. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand to ensure the continuation of the planting. Thanks to its variable colouring and natural origin, it is an appealing choice for collectors of botanical houseleeks.
