The Blue Moon cultivar dates back to the 1970s and was created by Helen E. Payne.

Sempervivum Blue Moon is a cultivar bred by Helen E. Payne from the United States of America in 1975. This houseleek forms compact rosettes about 3 cm in diameter with a bluish-silver coloration. The leaves are finely downy, and the rosettes grow slowly, maintaining a neat and balanced shape over time. The colouring may change slightly during the year according to the seasons.

It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate that should not remain waterlogged for long periods. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and shallow containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the planting. Thanks to its slow growth and subtle colouring, it fits well into refined plantings and houseleek collections.
