Sempervivum Blood Tip is a cultivar bred by Sandy Mac Pherson from the United States of America in 1962. This houseleek forms small brownish-olive green rosettes with pointed leaves and striking red-purple tips. The leaf bases are more strongly reddish, enhancing the overall colour contrast of the rosette. The colouring changes during the year according to the seasons.
It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate, where prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the clump. Thanks to its vividly coloured leaf tips, it is a good choice for growers who appreciate subtle differences among houseleek cultivars.
