TIP for you:

Since “Black Emerald” translates to a dark, emerald-like glow, full sun will help the colours show at their best.

Sempervivum Black Emerald is a cultivar with an unknown breeder, named by Erwin Geiger from Germany in 2003. This houseleek forms deep wine-red rosettes with sharply contrasting emerald-green leaf tips. In spring, a subtle bluish-violet shimmer appears, adding extra depth to the colouring. The colouration changes during the year according to the seasons.

It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, predominantly mineral substrate, where prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continued growth of the clump. Thanks to its striking colour contrast, it stands out clearly among other houseleek cultivars.
