Sempervivum Bascour Zilver is a cultivar bred by Gustaaf v. d. Steen from Belgium in 1979. The parents are Sempervivum arachnoideum and Sempervivum arachnoideum ssp. tomentosum. This houseleek forms very small rosettes densely covered with fine webbing, which is characteristic of the arachnoideum group. The appearance of the rosettes changes slightly during the year according to the seasons.
It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate, where prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and shallow containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the planting. Thanks to its miniature size and distinctive webbing, it is an appealing choice for collectors of houseleeks.
