Did you know?

The name Gnaphalium refers to its felt-like appearance, similar to plants of the genus Gnaphalium.

Sempervivum arachnoideum Gnaphalium is a cobweb houseleek with a strong seasonal contrast in rosette colouring. In spring, the difference is especially clear: older rosettes turn dark brown, while younger offsets remain light green. The rosettes are covered with well-developed white cobwebbing, which highlights the contrast between individual rosettes within the clump.

It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, predominantly mineral substrate that should not remain waterlogged for long periods. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and shallow containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but the production of offsets ensures the persistence of the planting. Thanks to its striking spring contrast, it is an interesting cultivar among cobweb houseleeks.
