Sempervivum Abby is a cultivar bred by André Smits from Belgium in 1994 and belongs to the S. arachnoideum group. This houseleek forms larger rosettes with a reddish colouring that is only lightly covered with fine webbing. The pale leaf tips are a striking feature and give the rosettes a contrasting appearance. The colouring changes during the year according to the seasons.
It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, mainly mineral substrate that should not remain waterlogged for long periods. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and shallow containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. The plant is monocarpic, meaning the mother rosette dies after flowering, but it produces new rosettes beforehand, ensuring the continuation of the planting. Thanks to its light-tipped leaves, it is an appealing choice for expanding a collection of cobweb houseleeks.
