Did you know?

It is often referred to as Rhodiola saxifragoides, under which name it is easier to find in botanical literature.

Sedum trollii is also known under the synonyms Rhodiola saxifragoides and Sedum saxifragoides and belongs to the family Crassulaceae. It is an endemic species of the Himalayan ridges in the Kashmir region, on the border between Baltistan and Ladakh. In its natural habitat, it grows in scree and rock crevices, usually at elevations ranging from about 2,400 to 3,200 meters.

This succulent is a perennial herb with fleshy, elongated obovate, entire and hairless leaves of a fresh green color. The leaves are arranged spirally at the tips of thin, branched rhizomes, forming compact rosettes about 1 cm wide. Over time, the plant spreads into dense, cushion-like mats.

The flowers are usually wider than the rosettes and are typically borne in pairs on ascending flowering stems. They are white and appear from May to June.

Sedum trollii is suitable for rock gardens or for growing in portable containers. If you are looking for a small alpine succulent with compact growth and subtle flowering, this species can be an interesting choice.
