TIP for you:

Hardy Sedum that tolerates drought well, but grows more vigorously and forms denser cover with occasional watering.

Sedum stenopetalum, commonly known as Wormleaf Stonecrop, Golden Constellation, or Narrow-leaved Sedum, is a frost-hardy rock garden succulent native to western North America. The species epithet stenopetalum means “narrow-petaled” and refers to the shape of its distinctive flowers. This plant is also listed under several synonyms, including Sedum coerulescens, Sedum douglasii, and Sedum subclavatum.

The plant forms trailing, branched stems ending in compact and firm rosettes. The leaves are green, lance-shaped, and reach up to about 1.5 cm in length. When grown in full sun, the foliage may develop reddish tones. The plant can grow up to around 20 cm in height and gradually spreads across the surface.

The flowers are star-shaped, composed of five narrow, lanceolate petals of a rich yellow colour. They appear from late spring into early summer and provide a strong contrast to the fine-textured rosettes.

Sedum stenopetalum is a resilient species well suited for rock gardens, dry stone walls, and containers with well-drained soil. It tolerates drier periods well, but during the growing season it benefits from regular watering from spring to autumn, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Thanks to its compact habit and bright yellow flowering, it is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a less common but reliable outdoor stonecrop.
