TIP for you:

A multicolored form of Sedum with variable leaf coloration throughout the season. Suitable for rock gardens, containers, and as a low ground cover species.

Sedum spurium Tricolor, botanically listed as Phedimus spurius Tricolor, is a frost-hardy rock garden succulent also known as Tricolor stonecrop. It is a popular groundcover species well suited for rock gardens, dry stone walls, and portable containers.

The plant has thick, fleshy leaves with a finely toothed tip. Its colouring is typically three-toned – the centre of the leaf is green, while the margins are white and often flushed with pink. Leaves can reach up to about 3.5 cm in length and around 1.3 cm in width. Creeping stems root at the nodes and form dense mats that may spread up to roughly 50 cm across, while the foliage usually remains around 10 cm high.

The flowers are small, star-shaped, and bright pink. They appear in spring in clustered groups on short stems that rise above the foliage, creating a strong colour contrast.

Sedum spurium Tricolor is an undemanding and resilient species that thrives in sunny to lightly shaded positions in well-drained soil. In winter, the above-ground parts often die back or contract, but the plant reliably resprouts again in spring. Thanks to its distinctive foliage and fast groundcover growth, it is an excellent choice for anyone looking for an easy outdoor stonecrop with strong visual character.
