TIP for you:

Compared to the green form, this variegated form gives a softer and lighter impression.

Sedum middendorfianum variegata is a variegated form of a species now classified as Phedimus middendorffianus. The species name middendorffianus honors Alexander Theodor von Middendorff (1815–1894), a zoologist and explorer. In nature, it originates from regions of China, Japan, Korea, and Russia, where it grows in rock crevices and stony soils in forest habitats.

The plant forms clumps of many upright stems that can reach a length of up to about 30 cm. The leaves are thick, fleshy, and variegated, with visible grooves and finely serrated margins in their upper part. Leaf coloration combines green tones with lighter cream to yellowish areas, which are most pronounced in good light. The plant spreads by creeping, branched rhizomes that become woody with age.

The flowers are star-shaped with bright yellow petals. They appear in summer in clusters at the ends of the stems and contrast strongly with the variegated foliage.

This succulent stonecrop is frost-hardy and dies back in winter. It prefers a sunny to bright position and well-draining soil, with rather moderate watering. Thanks to its hardiness, variegated foliage, and reliable growth, it is a good choice for outdoor plantings as well as for container cultivation, where it offers a strong visual effect without demanding care.
