TIP for you:

This species is named after Kamchatka, known for its harsh climate, which explains its good resistance.

Sedum kamtschaticum variegata, botanically listed as Phedimus kamtschaticus Variegatus, is a frost-hardy rock garden succulent also known as Russian stonecrop. The species epithet kamtschaticus refers to the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Russia and reflects the plant’s origin in northern and eastern Asia. It also occurs naturally in northern, eastern and central China, Japan, and Korea.

This is a low-growing succulent with a dense, creeping habit. The fleshy, finely toothed leaves are green with creamy white margins, often showing a soft pink tint. Thanks to its variegated foliage, the plant remains attractive even outside the flowering season. It grows to about 10 cm in height and gradually forms spreading groundcover mats.

The flowers are yellow and star-shaped, usually appearing in late summer. Flowering stems rise above the foliage and provide a distinct seasonal highlight.

Sedum kamtschaticum variegata is a hardy species well suited for rock gardens and portable containers with well-drained soil. In winter the plant reduces its volume and resumes fresh growth again in spring. With its colourful foliage and strong frost tolerance, it is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a reliable yet visually distinctive stonecrop.
