Sedum japonicum Tokyo Sun
Ideally, place in the sun. If possible, plant outdoors.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can withstand temperatures down to -12.2 °C. The plant is not fully frost-resistant.
The extremely yellow leaves of this partially frost-resistant plant thrive best when transplanted into a larger pot.
Sedum japonicum Tokyo Sun is a cultivar of Sedum japonicum, whose natural range includes East Asia, especially China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea.
The leaves are small, bright yellow, alternately arranged, narrowly cylindrical, and rounded at the tips. The plant forms creeping, rooting stems that branch densely and spread quickly to create a low ground-covering mat. It reaches a height of about 20 cm.
Flowering is rather uncommon in this cultivar, and it is mainly grown for its compact habit and strong foliage colour.
To keep the yellow tones, full sun is essential, as shade or excess nutrients may cause the leaves to turn green. A well-draining substrate is recommended, and after watering, excess moisture should not remain around the roots for long. It also works well in hanging containers, and after purchase it is best transplanted from the 6 cm pot into a larger one. Sedum japonicum Tokyo Sun is a small, partly frost-hardy plant that can be a valuable addition to a sunny selection.
