The plant prefers a sunny habitat.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. In winter, limit watering. In general, water rather limitedly.

It can tolerate -3.9 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.

TIP for you:

The best time to admire the flowers is in the afternoon—they close again after sunset.

Pleiospilos nelii Rubra, also known as Pleiospilos nelii Royal Flush, is a wine-red to deep reddish form of the species Pleiospilos nelii. This succulent belongs to the group commonly called “living stones” and is valued mainly for the intense coloration of its leaves. The genus name Pleiospilos refers to the characteristic spotting on the leaf surface, which is clearly visible in this form.

The plant forms 2 or 4 opposite, almost hemispherical leaves. These are usually pink to purple in color and covered with numerous small, raised dark dots on the surface. It can grow up to about 8 cm in height and around 10 cm in diameter, producing a new pair of leaves each year.

The flowers are dark pink with a white center and have a daisy-like shape. They can reach up to 7.5 cm in diameter and usually appear in early spring. The flowers open in the middle of the afternoon and close shortly after sunset.

For cultivation, a very well-draining substrate and limited watering are essential, adjusted to the plant’s growth phase. A bright position with plenty of indirect light is recommended. Under these conditions, it is a succulent suitable for growers who appreciate strong leaf coloration combined with compact growth.
