Plectranthus socotranus is a species whose specific epithet directly refers to its origin on the island of Socotra. It is an endemic species of Yemen, occurring exclusively on this island. It grows on rocky slopes and cliffs of limestone plateaus, in semi-deciduous forests, and on grassy slopes at the base of granite peaks, at elevations of approximately 450 to 1100 meters above sea level.
The leaves are fleshy, elliptical, and light green in color. The plant has a compact growth habit and forms a succulent appearance, reaching a height of up to about 40 cm. Thanks to its natural branching and sturdy stems, it maintains a compact form well.
The flowers are blue-violet and display the typical shape characteristic of the mint family. They appear during the growing season and rise above the foliage.
The leaves are strongly aromatic, with a scent often compared to a combination of eucalyptus and menthol, which lingers on the fingers after touch. Plectranthus socotranus requires a well-draining substrate, a bright position, and moderate watering, while the substrate must not remain waterlogged for long periods. Due to its low demands and compact growth, it also works well as a small bonsai-style plant.
