Pereskiopsis spathulata
Place the cactus in a sunny spot.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Do not water in winter.
At least +2 °C. The plant is not frost-resistant.
Pereskiopsis spathulata is one of the cacti that have retained fully developed leaves, which is quite unusual among cacti.
Pereskiopsis spathulata (also known as Pereskiopsis diguetii) is an unusual cactus that, unlike most cacti, retains fully developed leaves.
The plant grows as a densely branched shrub, with branches forming already from the lower part of the plant. Under good conditions, it can reach a height of up to about 2 m. The leaves are elliptic to ovate, with a long pointed tip, and can grow up to 5 cm in length. The areoles are slightly woolly and bear one or two pale spines reaching approximately 2.5 cm in length.
The flowers are yellow and can reach a diameter of up to about 7.5 cm. After flowering, the plant produces fruits that are orange to yellow, sometimes with a reddish tint.
Thanks to its fast growth and strong root system, Pereskiopsis spathulata is commonly used as a rootstock for grafting seedlings of slow-growing cactus genera such as Lophophora, Astrophytum, and Ariocarpus.
