TIP for you:

An interesting representative of the Orostachys genus with a variable appearance throughout the year. It is typically very seasonal – full rosettes in summer, inconspicuous, shriveled "cushions" in winter.

Orostachys chanetii grows naturally on rocks and stony slopes, and it is also reported from house roofs in the Chinese provinces of Sichuan, Gansu, Shanxi, and Hebei. It occurs at elevations of approximately 400 to 1,700 m.

It forms rosettes of linear grey-green leaves that are often tinged red. The leaves are cylindrical with a pronounced ridge, reaching up to about 2.5 cm in length and around 0.35 cm in diameter. The rosettes can reach demonstrate a diameter of about 5 cm and remain compact even in smaller plantings.

The flowers are pinkish or white and can reach up to about 1.3 cm in diameter. They appear at the beginning of winter in a dense, many-flowered, elongated inflorescence that can grow up to approximately 30 cm tall.

It is a monocarpic plant, so the mother rosette dies after flowering. It grows best in a sunny position in well-draining soil, where it maintains compact rosettes. Orostachys chanetii is a good choice for growers looking for a smaller species with distinctive flowering and a typical rosette habit.
