Orbea variegata Lazy
The plant likes sunny locations and partial shade.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can withstand temperatures down to -6.7 °C for short periods. However, the plant is not frost-resistant.
If you want the red coloring to be as vivid as possible, grow the plant in a sunny spot.
Orbea variegata Lazy is an interesting form of Orbea variegata. The genus name comes from the Latin word orbis, meaning “circle” or “disk”, referring to the typical flower shape of these succulents.
The plant forms low, ground-hugging clumps of short green stems that often develop reddish-brown tones in strong sunlight. The form “Lazy” is especially distinctive thanks to its red patterning along the stems, giving it a more striking appearance than standard forms. It remains very compact, reaching only about 5 cm in height, and gradually spreads into wider clusters.
Flowers are one of the most remarkable features of this group, although they may appear rather rarely. Under good conditions, the plant can produce the typical star-shaped, patterned blooms that make Orbea species highly valued among collectors.
Orbea variegata Lazy is an undemanding plant best grown in a bright position with a well-drained substrate. During winter, a cooler rest period around 10 °C can help encourage flowering. In summer, it tolerates sun well and benefits from regular watering, always allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Thanks to its red-marked stems and compact habit, it is an excellent choice for anyone looking to add an unusual and easy-to-grow plant to their collection.
