Ideally, place in full sun or partial shade.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.

It can withstand temperatures as low as -6.7 °C for short periods. However, the plant is not frost-resistant.

TIP for you:

The foliage has a brownish-purple hue reminiscent of dark chocolate.

Lenopetalum Chocolate is an interesting hybrid succulent, also known in Australia under the name Lenophyllum Chocolate. However, the shape of the rosette and the inflorescence clearly suggests that this plant does not truly belong to the genus Lenophyllum. It is most likely a hybrid involving another genus, possibly related to Graptopetalum.

The plant forms compact rosettes of strongly succulent, fleshy leaves with a rich dark brown-purple colour reminiscent of bitter chocolate. The leaves are thick, smooth, and firm, and the plant can reach a diameter of around 20 cm. This deep “chocolate” tone is caused by high concentrations of anthocyanins, pigments that may also serve as a natural protection against strong sunlight.

Flowers appear on slender stalks above the foliage. The contrast between the dark leaves and the lighter blossoms is one of the distinctive features of this plant during the flowering season.

Lenopetalum Chocolate is an undemanding succulent best grown in a bright position with a well-drained substrate. Fertilising is usually unnecessary, and the plant also works well in mixed succulent arrangements. Thanks to its striking chocolate-coloured foliage, it is an excellent choice for anyone looking to add an unusual yet easy-to-grow hybrid to their collection.
