Depending on how it is grown, Kalanchoe synsepala can vary greatly in size and shape.

Kalanchoe synsepala is a species also known under the synonyms Kalanchoe brachycalyx and Kalanchoe gentyi. It is commonly referred to as Walking Kalanchoe or Cup Kalanchoe. The species epithet synsepala means “fused sepals” and refers to the sepals being joined into a tubular structure. This species originates from Madagascar, where it occurs mainly in the central and southern parts of the island on rocky, sunny sites, and it is highly variable in size and form.

This succulent forms dense, fleshy grey-green leaves with pink to purplish margins. The leaves can reach up to about 15 cm in length and around 7 cm in width, with margins that may be entire or slightly toothed. The plant has a shrubby growth habit and can grow up to approximately 50 cm tall.

The flowers are small, light pink to reddish, and usually appear in mid-autumn.

Kalanchoe synsepala is an easy succulent that definitely does not require fertilizing. It grows best in a bright position with well-draining soil. If you are looking for a Kalanchoe with large leaves and an unusual growth habit, this species can be an interesting choice.
