Ideally, place in a sunny location, but partial shade is also acceptable.

Did you know?

Its home is the steep rocky cliffs of the Tugela River basin – an environment where only the most resilient species thrive.

Kalanchoe longiflora is a species of kalanchoe also known by the English name Tugela Cliff Kalanchoe, which refers to its natural habitat. It originates from South Africa, specifically from the central Tugela River basin in the KwaZulu-Natal province, where it grows on rocky cliffs and steep rock faces. This environment is reflected in its structure and tolerance of dry conditions and strong light.

The leaves are grey-green, thick, and fleshy, with a characteristic shape resembling a shell or fan. Leaf margins are often pinkish to reddish, and in some plants the leaves can turn entirely reddish-brown. The leaves grow on fleshy branches that become woody at the base over time. The shoots can reach lengths of up to about 40 cm, and the plant has a spreading, shrubby character.

The flowers are yellow to orange, elongated, and up to about 1.5 cm long. They appear in dense, many-flowered clusters, most commonly in autumn and winter.

Kalanchoe longiflora requires a well-draining substrate, a bright to sunny position, and watering only after the soil has dried. Thanks to its resilience and low demands, it is easy to grow even without much experience and represents a reliable succulent with a distinctive leaf shape and coloration.
