Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, also known as Flaming Katy or Christmas Kalanchoe, is a popular succulent species grown for its bright flowers and ease of cultivation. Since its introduction in 1930, this plant has won the hearts of gardeners around the world. The flowers of the numerous artificial cultivars boast a wide range of colours, from scarlet to red, purple, light purple, pink, orange, yellow and white.
This one boasts dark green leaves that are oblong to ovate and have a fleshy texture with scalloped edges. In full sun, the leaves show a red margin. The shrubby succulent grows up to 40 cm tall and has erect, low-branching stems.
Small, tubular flowers with four petals appear in dense terminal racemes throughout the year. The classic form dyes its flowers scarlet. Flowering can be encouraged by cooler temperatures and shorter daylight hours.
Kalanchoe blossfeldiana is a very undemanding plant that does not require much care. Transplanting the plant into a larger pot and occasional fertilizing is advisable. For simple care, you only need to be careful with the light level. Intense sunlight can burn the tips of the leaves. With this unpretentious and beautiful plant you will enjoy vibrant flowers for many weeks.
