Kalanchoe beharensis Major

Kalanchoe beharensis Major is a more robust form of Kalanchoe beharensis, also known as Felt Bush. This succulent originates from Madagascar and takes its name from the town of Behara in the southeastern part of the island. The species is highly variable overall, and the Major form is especially valued for its larger size and very substantial leaves.

The leaves are thick, fleshy, and densely covered with fine hairs, which help reduce water loss. Compared to other forms, Major has noticeably larger and broader leaves with strongly wavy, irregular margins. Older lower leaves may naturally dry out, while the stem becomes thicker and woody with age. The plant grows upright and under good conditions can gradually develop into a striking shrub-like form.

Flowers usually appear only on older plants, most often during winter. They are small, urn-shaped, and typically show greenish-pink to greenish-yellow tones.

Kalanchoe beharensis Major grows best in a bright position with well-draining soil and should be watered only several days after the soil has completely dried out. Because of its faster growth, it is best repotted into a larger container over time, and the plant can easily be shortened by pruning if needed.
