Jovibarba heuffelii Oreade
The plant prefers full sun and is well suited to both rock gardens and portable containers.
Water the plant in a pot only after the substrate has completely dried out, and water the rock garden according to current conditions and weather.
It is fully frost-resistant and can withstand temperatures down to –34.4 °C.
Cornelis Versteeg, a prominent Dutch collector and breeder, is the author of this cultivar.
Jovibarba heuffelii Oreade is a cultivar bred by Cornelis Versteeg from the Netherlands in 2001. It forms rosettes about 6 cm in size with ovate leaves finished with a long pointed tip. The leaf bases are light green, while the remaining part of the leaf is brown-orange in colour, with intensity that changes during the year according to the seasons.
It is best grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, predominantly mineral substrate, where prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and tolerates year-round outdoor cultivation. Thanks to its balanced growth and variable colouring, it works well both as a single plant and in combination with other cultivars.
