Jovibarba heuffelii Beata
The plant prefers full sun and is well suited to both rock gardens and portable containers.
Water the plant in a pot only after the substrate has completely dried out, and water the rock garden according to current conditions and weather.
It is frost-resistant and can withstand temperatures down to –34.4 °C.
The author of this cultivar is André Smits, a renowned breeder with an exceptionally extensive collection of Sempervivum.
Jovibarba heuffelii Beata is a cultivar bred by André Smits from Belgium in 1999. It forms small rosettes with a light green base, while the upper third of the leaves is coloured dark red. The colour transition is clearly defined and evenly visible across the entire rosette.
It is grown in a sunny position in a well-draining, predominantly mineral substrate, where prolonged waterlogging should be avoided. The plant performs best in soil amended with stone or gravel, allowing excess water to drain away quickly. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls and containers with drainage, and can be cultivated outdoors all year round without special requirements. Thanks to its small rosettes, it fits well into finer, more detailed plantings.
