Did you know?

The plant grows small but very contrasting teeth on the edges of its leaves. These are the teeth that give the plant its name denticulifera.

Haworthia chloracantha var. denticulifera, also known as the toothed Haworthia, is a succulent plant native to South Africa. It grows on steep, well-drained slopes, usually among grass or under shrubs.

This small succulent plant forms small rosettes of yellow to brownish-green leaves, which are often deep red at the base. The leaves are straight, fleshy and outward pointing. Their edges are decorated with tiny green teeth, hence the name 'denticulifera'. The leaves are triangular in cross-section and up to 3 cm long. Haworthia produces offsets from the base which form a dense cluster of rosettes as the plant ages. These rosettes can grow up to 5 cm in diameter.

Long stems appear on the plant, at the top of which small white bell-shaped flowers bloom.

Haworthia chloracantha var. denticulifera impresses with its toothy leaves and the pinkish tints at the base add to its variable appearance. It does not like full sun, but plenty of light is essential for its growth. Fertilise sparingly at your discretion. With adequate watering, the plant will prove to be a fleshy toothed succulent that will appeal to Haworthia lovers.
