Did you know?

The name glabrata comes from the Latin term for a smoother surface and probably describes the overall impression of this plant's leaves.

Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata is a small plant also known under the scientific name Haworthiopsis attenuata var. glabrata. The epithet glabrata means “somewhat smooth” and likely refers to the first visual impression of the leaf surface. This taxon originates from the Cape region of South Africa.

The plant forms rosettes of thick, fleshy, narrow leaves that range from light to dark green. When grown in direct sun, the leaves may develop brownish-green tones. The surface is covered with raised tubercles that are the same colour as the leaves, giving it a less contrasting look than some other forms of Haworthia attenuata. The rosettes can reach about 12.5 cm in height and around 10 cm in diameter, and the plant produces many side offsets.

The flowers are small and tubular, white with green veins, and appear on slender stalks that can grow up to around 40 cm tall. Flowering usually occurs from spring through autumn.

Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata is a very hardy and easy plant, suitable even for beginners. It adapts well to normal indoor conditions and gradually forms attractive clumps through offsetting. If you are looking for a compact Haworthia with subtler leaf markings, this form is an excellent choice.
