Did you know?

It is probably a Japanese cultivar.

Faucaria tuberculosa Aranami is a cultivar derived from the species Faucaria tuberculosa, native to South Africa. The name Aranami comes from Japanese and means “sea waves,” referring to the irregular, wave-like surface of the leaves. It is most likely a Japanese selected cultivar, and its exact origin is not clearly documented.

This succulent forms low rosettes of opposite, triangular leaves. The leaves are fleshy, green to light green, with prominent whitish bumps and a strongly sculptured surface. The margins bear soft, pale teeth typical of the genus Faucaria. Older lower leaves gradually dry out, and the plant readily produces offsets, forming compact clumps over time.

The flowers are typical for faucarias, large, yellow, and dandelion-like. They usually appear in autumn or winter and open around midday, closing again later in the day.

Faucaria tuberculosa Aranami is an undemanding succulent suitable for a bright position with plenty of light. It requires a well-draining substrate and careful watering, especially during cooler periods. With its strongly textured leaves and compact growth, it is an attractive choice for growers looking for a less common Faucaria cultivar.
