Did you know?

It belongs to epiphytic cacti, which do not grow in the ground in nature, but on tree trunks, where they benefit from diffused light and higher humidity.

Epiphyllum Beavertail is an epiphytic, tree-like cactus grown mainly for its large, showy flowers and long, flat stems. In nature it grows attached to trees, which explains its naturally trailing habit and makes it especially suitable for hanging baskets.

The plant produces long, wide, flattened segments of dark green color that can reach considerable lengths over time and cascade freely downward. The segments are soft, spineless, with gently undulating margins. Overall, the plant appears robust yet elegant, particularly in older, well-established specimens.

The flowers are very large and striking, forming the main ornamental feature of this cactus. They have creamy white to pale yellow inner petals, complemented by longer, narrower outer petals in yellow to orange tones. Flowering occurs regularly, usually in spring or summer.

Epiphyllum Beavertail prefers a bright position without harsh midday sun; light shade is ideal. The substrate should be light and well-draining, with a higher organic content than typical cactus mixes. Watering should be regular but moderate, allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. With proper care, it is a long-lived and highly decorative plant that stands out especially well in hanging containers or elevated positions.
