Did you know?

It is similar to Echeveria purpusorum, but with more slender leaves with a pointed top. Dionysos has more plump leaves.

Echeveria Dionysos was formerly known by us as Echeveria purpusorum. These are two similar plants, but slightly different. Dionysos is a hybrid that was created by a cross between Echeveria purpusorum and an unknown Echeveria and named by Jean-Michel Moullec.

This Echeveria is characterized by its plump leaves that turn deep olive green, grey-green or whitish green with irregular reddish-brown spots and edges. The leaves grow up to 5 cm long and 2.5 cm wide and gradually taper to a small spike. During prolonged dry periods the lower leaves fall off. The rosettes are compact and reach a diameter of 10 cm. This is a small and slow-growing succulent.

During spring, bell-shaped flowers may appear on branched stems, reaching up to 30 cm in height. The flowers turn pinkish red with pale yellow tips and insides.

Echeveria Dionysos is easy to grow and suitable for beginners. It does not need any fertilizing and likes a permeable substrate. To maintain its intense colour and compact growth, it should be grown in a sunny location. Lack of light can cause unhealthy leaf colouration and sparse distribution. It is particularly popular because of its undemanding and hardy nature and interesting leaf edge colouration.
