Cultivar created by crossing E. shaviana and E. affinis. It retains the regular shape of a rosette and belongs to the dark-leaved echeverias, whose color reacts significantly to light conditions.

Echeveria Black Prince is a hybrid created by Frank Reinelt in California, originating from a cross between Echeveria shaviana and Echeveria affinis. The cultivar was introduced by Abbey Gardens in 1970 in the CSSA Journal. This hybrid is known for its relatively high variability, particularly in leaf coloration.

The leaves are thick, fleshy, and smooth, coloured dark burgundy to almost black. They are arranged in regular rosettes that can reach up to about 12.5 cm in height and around 15 cm in diameter. The plant tends to produce offsets at the base and gradually forms a dense clump.

The flowers are red and bell-shaped, appearing in late autumn and winter. They are carried on tall flower stalks with large, prominent bracts.

For cultivation, a bright position is essential. With insufficient light, the leaves lose their dark coloration, while exposure to full summer sun can cause them to take on a coppery-orange tint. The substrate should be well-draining, and watering should be moderate, always allowing the soil to dry between waterings. This succulent works well as a houseplant for growers seeking a dark-coloured echeveria with a strong visual presence.
