Delosperma basuticum White Nugget is a popular cultivar of Delosperma basuticum with pure white flowers. The plant has fleshy, bright green, almost cylindrical leaves and forms a low, spreading mat of branched stems. It grows to about 5 cm in height and can spread up to approximately 30 cm in width. Flowering begins very early in spring, when the plant is covered with numerous white, daisy-like flowers with yellow centres that often hide the foliage completely. Individual flowers may occasionally continue to appear until frost.
It is grown in a similar way to other ice plants, in a fully sunny position and in a very well-draining, mainly mineral substrate. The substrate should not remain waterlogged for long periods, especially during colder seasons. It is suitable for rock gardens, dry stone walls, gravel beds and edges of beds, where it can trail naturally over stones. Thanks to its early and abundant flowering, it is an attractive choice for gardeners seeking a strongly flowering groundcover at the start of the season.
