Crassula platyphylla Green Surprise
Ideally, place in a sunny location. The plant is perfect for summer planting.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can withstand temperatures as low as -6.7 °C for short periods. However, the plant is not frost-resistant.
This cultivar is named Green Surprise because its leaves often create unexpected color transitions depending on the light.
Crassula platyphylla Green Surprise is a cultivated form derived from Crassula nudicaulis var. platyphylla. It belongs to the smaller succulent Crassulas and stands out for its clean, calm appearance and compact growth.
The leaves are broad, rounded to slightly elongated, smooth, and fleshy. The dominant color is green, complemented under good light by a subtle red tint, most noticeable along the margins and on the upper surface of the leaves. Older, lower leaves naturally dry out. The plant grows as a low shrub with short, slightly branched stems.
Small greenish flowers may appear in spring and occasionally again later in the season. Flowering is not a defining feature of this cultivar.
Crassula platyphylla Green Surprise requires a well-draining substrate and a bright position. Watering should be moderate and only after the substrate has dried. It is an undemanding succulent suitable even for less experienced growers and works well both on its own and in combination with other small species.
