Crassula capitella Red Pagoda
Place the succulent in a sunny location.
Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
Can tolerate -6,7 °C in the short term. However, the plant is not hardy.
It is advisable to make a rejuvenating cut after flowering. This will give the succulent a healthier and more beautiful appearance and make it shine even more among other plants.
Crassula capitella Red Pagoda is also called Crassula corymbulosa, Crassula thyrsiflora, Pagoda Village, Red Pagoda, Shark's Tooth Crassula. It can be found growing wild in Namibia and South Africa namely the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern, Northern and Western Cape.
The leaves turn green and turn to red to chestnut brown. They are commonly arranged in several rosettes, curving and spiralling around the stem. This is usually covered with fine hairs and eventually becomes woody with branching. It grows up to 20 cm and can become semi-evergreen.
Delicate white flowers bloom during summer and autumn on spike-like inflorescences. When the bloom has finished it can be cut back to allow the plant to continue growing and regain its compact shape.
The leaves change colour throughout the year, giving the fat tree an unusual look several times a season. It needs plenty of sunlight to give it a deep red colour and healthy appearance. It is therefore advisable to place it outside during the summer. We can make a rejuvenating cut to give the plant a better look. It is suitable for planting in a succulent pot, where it will shine beautifully among other species and let its potential shine through.
