Ceropegia woodii Silver Glory
Partial shade is ideal for this plant, but it can also tolerate sunny locations.
Always water only after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
Temperatures should not fall below 4.4 °C. The plant is not frost-resistant.
It forms underground tubers, from which it can sprout again even after the shoots have dried out.
Ceropegia woodii Silver Glory is a popular “candle plant” also known as String of Hearts. The Silver Glory form stands out for its strong silvery colouring, which can cover almost the entire surface of the leaves.
The leaves are firm, smooth, and typically heart-shaped, growing in opposite pairs along the stems. In this form, the silver pattern is much more pronounced than in the standard type, and the dark green background is often reduced to a narrow margin. The underside of the leaves is frequently purple. The plant produces thin trailing stems from underground tubers, which can grow several metres long and can easily be trimmed if needed.
The flowers are small but noticeable, with the typical “candle-like” shape characteristic of Ceropegia. They appear mainly in summer, though under good conditions the plant may bloom outside the main season as well.
Ceropegia woodii Silver Glory is especially suitable as a trailing plant for hanging pots or for placing on shelves, where its stems create long “curtains” of heart-shaped leaves. It is hardy and tolerates irregular watering well, and should be watered only several days after the substrate has completely dried out. If you are looking for a String of Hearts with exceptionally silvery leaves, Silver Glory is one of the most impressive forms of this species.
