Did you know?

The leaves are arranged in a regular spiral, which is how the species got its name.

Astroloba spiralis is a small succulent native to plains and lower slopes in the Eastern Cape and the Little Karoo region of the Western Cape. It grows in dry, open habitats and belongs to species adapted to rocky environments.

The leaves are smooth, pointed, and dark green. They are densely arranged in five distinct spiral rows, giving the plant its characteristic appearance. The stems can reach lengths of up to about 20 cm, branch from the base, and are initially upright but gradually become prostrate with age. The plant forms a small, clump-forming growth and readily produces offsets.

The flowers appear in autumn. They are borne on stalks and are white, with a rough texture, green margins, and yellow tips.

For cultivation, a bright position with partial shade is suitable. The substrate should be well-draining, and watering should be moderate, allowing the substrate to dry thoroughly between waterings. This succulent is suitable for growers looking for a plant with a distinctive spiral leaf arrangement.
