Did you know?

The colorful form is sought after by collectors precisely because of its contrasting red leaves.

Aloe castilloniae Red is a form of aloe grown for its striking coloration and leaf texture. The origin of this plant is not precisely documented, and it is likely a horticultural hybrid. The name “Red” refers to the intensified red to orange tones that develop especially under good light conditions.

The plant forms a compact rosette of rigid, triangular leaves. The leaves are thick, with a rough, uneven surface densely covered with small protuberances, and the margins bear pronounced, conical teeth. The base color ranges from gray-green to beige, with red to orange accents that become more intense in full sun and under drier conditions.

The flowers are narrow, tubular, and orange to red in color. They appear on an upright flowering stalk emerging from the center of the rosette and are arranged in a loose inflorescence.

This succulent requires a very bright position, a well-draining mineral substrate, and restrained watering with complete drying between waterings. In good light, it maintains a compact rosette and strong coloration and stands out as a distinctive specimen in a collection.
