Agave victoriae-reginae Golden Princess
Ideally, place in full sun or partial shade.
Water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can withstand temperatures as low as -6.7 °C for short periods. However, the plant is not frost-resistant.
Agave does not need a deep pot – it grows well even in smaller containers. It is only important that the pot has drainage.
Agave victoriae-reginae Golden Princess is a variegated cultivar of Agave victoriae-reginae, sometimes listed under the names Agave victoriae-reginae variegata or Agave victoriae-reginae Aureo-Marginata. The species originates from Mexico, specifically from the Chihuahuan Desert. The epithet victoriae-reginae honors Queen Victoria (1819–1901) of the United Kingdom.
This succulent forms compact rosettes of green leaves with broad yellow margins and white, slightly raised markings. The leaves reach up to about 20 cm in length and around 3 cm in width, narrowing toward a pointed tip and ending in a short black terminal spine. The rosettes can grow to approximately 30 cm in height and about 45 cm in diameter, and with age they slowly produce offsets, forming small clumps.
The flowers are creamy white to pale yellow, sometimes with hints of red or purple. They appear in summer on an unbranched flowering spike that can reach up to about 4 meters in height, although this cultivar does not flower regularly.
Agave victoriae-reginae Golden Princess can be grown in containers thanks to its shallow root system; a well-draining substrate and at least one drainage hole are important. Fertilizing is optional. If you are looking for a compact, strongly variegated agave, this cultivar is considered a highly valued choice.
